VI. Having the Seven Spirits and Holding the Seven Stars

In addressing the the first of the seven local churches, the local church in Ephesus, Christ presents Himself as the One who holds the seven stars in His right hand (Rev. 2:1). According to Revelation 1:20, these seven stars are the messengers, the leading ones bearing the responsibility for the local churches. Thus, Christ is the One who holds and preserves the leading ones of the local churches in His right hand. Moreover, He is also holding the seven Spirits, which are the seven lamps of fire (Rev. 4:5). Based on these verses, Witness Lee encourages all the leading ones in the local churches to be “burning” with the Spirit.

In Revelation 2:1, the Lord says, “These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden lampstands.” The seven stars are the leading ones in the local churches. The Lord today is holding the leading ones. He is walking in the midst of the local churches and He is holding the leading ones.
Then Revelation 3:1 tells us that He is not only holding the leading ones, but He also has the seven Spirits. “These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars.” The seven Spirits are not only for the seven churches, but also for the leaders of the local churches. All the leading ones of the local churches must be burning with the seven Spirits. (62)

VII. Opening the Door

To the local church in Philadelphia, Christ reveals Himself as the One with the authority to open and shut the door to the local church, declaring that He has set before this local church an open door (Rev. 3:7-8). Witness Lee testifies below that the Lord has set before the local churches an open door which no one can shut.

Revelation also tells us that Christ has the keys of David. When He opens, no one can shut, and when He shuts, no one can open. “These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth.” (Rev. 3:7). The Lord sets before the local churches an open door. I can testify that in the past years the enemy has tried his best to shut the doors to us. But the more he has tried, the more the doors have been opened. The local churches are His testimonies. Who can shut them? The key of David is in His hand. (62)

Christ appears to the local church in Ephesus as the One who holds the seven stars in His right hand. The seven stars, as Witness Lee indicates, are the leading ones, the believers bearing the responsibility as overseers, in the local churches. Based on the fact that Christ is also holding the seven Spirits, the leading ones in each local church are exhorted by Witness Lee to be "burning" with the sevenfold intensified Spirit.

In addition, Witness Lee assures the believers that the Lord, as the One with the authority to open and shut the door to the local church, has set before the local churches an open door.
